Biography

Born on May 9, 1927 in the village of Cheshuevo, Rybnovsky District, Ryazan Region, in a peasant family. He graduated from a seven-year school in the village of Fedyakino. For two years he worked on the collective farm "Prostor" in his native village.

In December 1944 he was drafted into the Red Army . He served in the airborne troops, went from a private to a lieutenant , became a parachute jump instructor. He made about a hundred jumps.

Demobilized in March 1951. After returning from the army, Polyakov went to work in the Rybnoe depot of the Moscow-Ryazan Railway as an assistant to the stoker locomotive . In May 1952, he became a student of the turner-borer of the second mechanical workshop of the Ryazan Machine Tool Plant .

Soon he became one of the best machinists of the plant. He developed and introduced a number of rationalization proposals aimed at improving production technology, improving product quality, and reducing labor costs. He worked on a horizontal boring machine.

In January 1960, Polyakov was awarded the title of drummer of communist labor, which he then repeatedly confirmed. The tasks of the eighth five-year plan were completed by him ahead of schedule and following its results Nikolay Pavlovich was awarded the Order of Lenin . Together with the turner-operator A. N. Gordeev, Polyakov initiated the movement for early fulfillment of the tasks of the ninth five-year plan. He completed the 1973 plan by November 1, and by December 1974 completed the assignments of the personal five-year plan.

Over the year, his labor productivity increased by 11%, and compared with 1970 - by 45%, when working on the same machine, under the same working conditions - only due to greater clarity in completing tasks, more skillful use of equipment and tool.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 3, 1974 “for outstanding success in fulfilling and overfulfilling the plans of 1973 and the socialist obligations assumed”, Nikolai Pavlovich Polyakov was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal “Hammer and Sickle”.

He actively participated in public life. Repeatedly elected a member of the Ryazan city committee of the CPSU and the party committee of the plant, he was a delegate to the XXV Congress of the CPSU . He was a deputy and member of the Ryazan City and Ryazan Regional Councils of People's Deputies of a number of convocations, a member of the Presidium of the Regional Council of Trade Unions. In 1989, he retired. Senior citizen of national importance. Honorary Citizen of Ryazan.

He lived in the city of Ryazan. He died on January 22, 1998.
