Biography
Leonid Tuigunov was born on October 5, 1919 in the village of Ladeiki (now - within the boundaries of Krasnoyarsk ). Since 1935 he lived in Kiselevsk, where he graduated from a seven-year school. After finishing ten grades of the school, he worked as a retoucher in a printing house. In September 1939, Tuigunov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1940, he graduated from the Chelyabinsk Military Aviation School of observer pilots . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. In 1942 Tuigunov graduated from the Higher School of Navigators. He was wounded twice in battle [1] .
By October 1944, Senior Lieutenant Leonid Tuigunov was the navigator of the link of the 335th Air Regiment of the 4th Guards Air Division of the 4th Guards Air Corps of the USSR ADD . By that time he had made 205 sorties to bombard accumulations of military equipment and manpower of the enemy, his important objects, inflicting heavy losses on him [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 5, 1944, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism”, Senior Lieutenant Leonid Tuigunov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 5127 [1] .
After the war, Tuigunov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1955, he graduated from the Central Flight Tactical Courses. In 1959, with the rank of Colonel Tuigunov, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked in the city of Svetlovodsk, Kirovograd region of Ukraine . He died on September 11, 2001, and was buried in the military cemetery of Alexandria [1] .
He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner , the Order of Alexander Nevsky , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, two orders of the Red Star , a number of medals and a foreign order [1] .
