In quantum field theory , more precisely in the theory of renormalization , the bare mass of an elementary particle is the limit of its mass when the distance scale tends to zero, or the same thing when the collision energy of particles tends to infinity. In the theory of electroweak interaction using the Higgs boson , all particles have a bare mass equal to zero.
This allows us to record where denotes the experimentally observed particle mass; her naked mass, and weight gain due to the interaction of the particle with the medium or field.
