Lavrenty Vasilievich Truchak ( 1907 - 1944 ) - captain of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army , participant in the Great Patriotic War , Hero of the Soviet Union ( 1945 ).

Biography
Lavrenty Truchak was born on August 15, 1907 in the village of Nagoryany (now the Kamenetz-Podolsky district of the Khmelnitsky region of Ukraine ). He graduated from seven grades of school and co-education school. He directed the collective farm , then was an instructor in the district committee of the CPSU (b). In 1929 - 1931 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1941, Truchak was re-drafted into the army. Since July of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By August 1944, Captain Lavrenty Truchak commanded a tank company of the 120th separate tank brigade of the 5th Army of the 3rd Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the battles on the outskirts of East Prussia . In just one day of fighting, the Truchak company destroyed 5 tanks, 4 batteries of mortars, 12 artillery pieces, 5 armored personnel carriers, 7 vehicles and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers, leaving the USSR and East Prussia on August 16, 1944. On August 20, 1944, Truchak died in battle. He was buried in the city of Kudirkos Naomestis [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945 for "exemplary fulfillment of command assignments, courage and heroism shown in the battles during the liberation of Belarus," captain Lavrenty Truchak was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and World War II 2nd degree, a number of medals [1] .
A school in his native village is named after Truchak [1] .
