Geography
Ainsworth is located in upstate. It is one of two cities in the district (the second is ) and generally the largest settlement of the district. The area of the city is 2.59 km², there are no open water spaces. The city is served by Ainsworth Regional Airport . From the south and west the city is surrounded by a national landmark - [3] .
History
The settlement was founded in 1883, when the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad reached this point. The name was given to him in honor of the railway engineer James Ainsworth, who made a significant contribution to the development of the road in Brown County [4] . The town grew rapidly: a year later a two-story school was built (it functioned until 1955), and two years later it consisted of 30 blocks and the main street was filled with various shops. In 1888, a courthouse was built in the city (destroyed by fire in 1958), the new building of the district court opened in 1960. In 1910, the first high school opened its doors in Ainsworth. During the Second World War, the city housed a military training base for pilots; after the war ended in 1947, it hosted a national air show, which was attended by about 7,000 people, and then the land of an unnecessary base was given to the city [3] .
Demographics
- According to the 2000 census , 1862 people lived in Ainsworth, there were 845 households and 501 families. The white population was 98.55%. The per capita income was $ 16,935 a year, 7.9% of families and 9.8% of the city's population lived below the poverty line.
- According to the 2010 census , 1728 people lived in Ainsworth [5] , there were 804 households and 450 families. Racial composition : white - 97.9%, blacks and African Americans - 0.1%, Native Americans - 0.3%, Asians - 0.2%, other races - 0.5%, mixed races - 1%, Hispanics ( any race) - 1.2%. In 26.2% of households, children under the age of 18 lived, 44% of households were married couples living together, 7.7% - a woman - the head of a family living without a husband, 4.2% - a man - the head of a family living without a wife and 44% were not families. The average family size was 2.83 people, the average age of a city dweller was 46.2 years. 23.1% of the population were under the age of 18, 6% were between 18 and 24 years old, 19.7% were between 25 and 44 years old, 26.5% were between 45 and 64 years old, and 24.6% were aged 65 years and older. Men were 46.8%, women - 53.2%.

- According to 2012 estimates, 1662 people lived in Ainsworth [5] : 46% of men and 54% of women. The average household income was $ 26,785 a year, which is almost half that of the state average; per capita income was $ 21,045 a year. Origin of ancestors: Germans - 39.4%, Irish - 14%, English - 9.2%, Norwegians - 5.9%, French - 4.2%. Of residents older than 15 years, 16.6% were single and never married, 52.8% were married and lived together, 0.4% were married, but lived separately, 14% were widowed and 16.2 % were divorced. 1.5% of Ainsworth residents were born outside the United States [6] .
