Biography

Born on January 30, 1885 in the village of Lukanovka [1] in a peasant family. Due to the poverty of his parents, he was forced to quit his studies at a two-year school and go to work.

He left for Siberia, on the Trans-Siberian Railway, worked on the construction of the second track of the Circum-Baikal Railway. At first he was an ordinary worker, then a senior on the construction of the subgrade, a foreman.

In 1907-1909 he served in the army in the 4th East Siberian Regiment in the city of Nikolsk-Ussuriysky. After demobilization, he returned to Transbaikalia, in 1911 he already held the post of construction superintendent of the West Ural road quarry, and later led earthworks on the Amur Railway.

Member of the First World War. In 1915-1918 he served in the 3rd diesel railway battalion in the Dubno region, participated in battles on the South-Western Front , in the Brusilovsky breakthrough. In 1918, he worked as an assistant manager for laying the track on the Kazan-Yekaterinburg railway.

In 1921, as an experienced traveler, he was seconded for the construction of the Petropavlovsk-Kokchetav railway line. Here he was in charge of laying the track. The construction, in connection with the famine that broke out in the Volga region, was of particular importance and was carried out at an accelerated pace. 20 days before the deadline, the rail track reached Kokchetav.

In 1925-1926, I. I. Bubchikov was the foreman of earthworks and the construction of artificial structures on the Nizhny Novgorod - Kotelnich line. In February 1927, with the first group of volunteers, he arrived in Semipalatinsk to build Turksib. Entering a simple construction worker, he soon became an artel headman. After some time, he was instructed to command the Northern laying town. The builders led the line from Semipalatinsk at an accelerated pace, with an average speed of 3.5 km per day. In the spring of 1930, a "silver crutch" was hammered, Bubchikov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor .

In June 1930, Bubchikov was appointed head of the laying of the second track Bashzheldorstroy, supervised the work on the sections of Chelyabinsk-Kinel, Kartaly-Magnitogorsk. Later he supervised the laying of the rail-sleeper lattice on the lines Karaganda-Balkhash, Uralsk-Iletsk, Saratov- Rtishchevo. While working on the construction of the Moscow- Donbass highway, for the first time in the country he applied mechanical track laying using a track-laying machine.

In 1937, Bubchikov was appointed head of the Kanash-Cheboksary line, then deputy head and head of the second section of the Volga Construction and Installation Trust. In March 1939 - the head of the construction department on the Akmolinsk-Kartaly line. At the beginning of 1940, under his leadership, the last 20 km were commissioned; in less than a year, a line with a length of 806 km was built, which is important for the shortest route of Karaganda coal to the blast furnaces of Magnitogorsk.

In the spring of 1940, the Bubchikov line-laying train worked at the Volkhovstroy station of the Oktyabrskaya Railway, and in the summer it built the Artsyz-Izmail line. Then he was sent to Belarus.

From the first days of World War II, a track-laying train restored a track destroyed by enemy bombing. In August, he was relocated to the Urals, in the area of ​​Nizhny Tagil. In October 1941, Bubchikov’s team was included in the Military Operational Unit No. 12 and transferred to the construction of the Akhtuba-Stalingrad line. This road was the only one connecting Stalingrad with the east of the country and subsequently played an important role in the Battle of Stalingrad . The first freight train passed on December 7, 1941, and subsequently the existing branch continued to be completed and expanded. Bubchikov’s track-laying column worked selflessly on this construction.

Since January 1942, Bubchikov’s track-laying column was transferred from one construction to another, and all the facilities were important for the front and urgent. Line Kizlyar-Astrakhan, as soon as possible in the bare steppe 52 km of track were laid. When in the summer of 1942 they entered the North Caucasus, it was on this line that trains with oil went from Baku . Then the Crimean-Taman section, north of Novorossiysk, where preparations were underway for the Kerch-Feodosia operation. And again the Kizlyar-Astrakhan branch, where in the summer of 1942 the trackers had to take up arms, reflecting the attacks of individual reconnaissance squads of the opponents.

When the front line came close, the Bubchikova track-ferryman crossed the ferry crossing to the left bank of the Volga, to the Pugachev-Chapaevsk section. But soon he was urgently transferred to the Urals, to build the Alapaevsk-Sosva road. This line, laid before the war, opened the shortest way to the raw material reserves of the north of the Sverdlovsk region .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 5, 1943 “for special merits in providing transportation for the front and the national economy and outstanding achievements in restoring the railway industry in difficult wartime conditions” Ivan Iosifovich Bubchikov was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and a gold medal "Hammer and sickle".

In August 1944, I. I. Bubchikov was appointed deputy head of the Construction and Restoration Work Department of the Vinnitsa Railway Railway. In his new position, he restored and reconstructed sections of the track in Western Ukraine, which supplied the troops liberating Czechoslovakia and Poland , stormed Berlin.

He lived in the city of Vinnitsa. He died on April 16, 1947. He was buried in the Central cemetery in Vinnitsa.

Recognition

He was awarded the Order of Lenin , 2 orders of the Red Banner of Labor , orders of the Patriotic War 1st degree, "Badge of Honor", medals; two signs "Honorary Railwayman".

Memory

In memory of the heroism of the hero-railroad, the Cape of the Sverdlovsk Railway was renamed the Bubchikovo station.
