Institute of Co -istics

Institute of Co -istics ( V.-puddle. Institut za sorabistiku ) is the name of a higher educational institution operating within the framework of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Leipzig . The task of the Institute of Co -istics is to study the scientific discipline devoted to the West Slavic people of Luzhichans , its culture, literature, historical, ethnological and social issues, Upper Luzhitsky and Lower Luzhitsky languages ​​and their dialects.

The institute was founded in September 1951 at the initiative of the Luga writer Michal Navka . Originally called the Serbian Institute. The institute had two sections: history, language and literature. Until 1964, the first director of the institute was Luda folklorist and public figure Pavol Nedo . In the next 30 years until 1992, the director of the institute was the Luzick professor and Slavist Ginz Schuster-Shevts [1] . From 1967 to 1982, the Institute of Sobrabistics annually organized the international summer Higher Courses of Ludice Languages ​​and Culture of Luzica. After the reform of higher education in the German Democratic Republic of 1968, the Serbian Institute was renamed the Institute of Sobrabistics.

Currently, the Institute of Sorabistics is the only university institution that prepares co-workers with higher education. Graduates of the Institute of Sorabistics receive academic degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, Master of Arts and Master of Education. Teaching at the institute is conducted in the Luzick languages.

In its activities, the Institute of Sorabistics cooperates with the Serbian Institute , founded in 1992.

The current director of the institute is Edward Vornar .
