Biography
Born December 21, 1919 in the village of Chernysh, Priluzsky region of the Komi Republic , in a peasant family. Komi. Since 1932 he worked in the forest industry. He was the lumberjack of the Chernyshsky forest station of the Noshulsky lestrankhoz.
In 1939–1946 he served in the Red Army , senior sergeant, took part in battles as part of the 3rd Ukrainian Front.
After demobilization, he returned to his homeland. He began working again as a logger, then as a foreman of a small integrated brigade in the Noshul lestrankhoz. The team headed by him annually harvested more than 15 thousand cubic meters of wood.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 5, 1957, for the outstanding successes achieved in the development of the forest industry, Vasily Fedorovich Smolev conferred the title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Sickle Hammer gold medal.
He lived in the village of Chernysh. He died in 1984. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Chernysh.
