Maalot-Tarshiha ( Hebrew מַעֲלוֹת-תַּרְשִׁיחָא - Maʻalot-Taršiḥa, Arabic. معالوت ترشيحا - Maʻālūt Taršīḥā) is a city in Israel . It was founded in 1963 by the merger of the Arab village of Tarshiha and the Jewish settlement of Ma'alot.

Geography
Located in the Western Galilee , 20 km north of Karmiel , 20 km east of Nahariya , 70 km from Haifa .
The city is located twenty kilometers from the coast of the Mediterranean Sea , in a hilly area, at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. The climate is dry and cool. Near the city is the ancient fortress of the crusaders Montfort .
History
The mixed Muslim - Christian Arab village of Tarshiha has a long history, Christian burials dating back to the 4th century have been found in the village. Tarshiha is also mentioned by the crusaders in the XII - XIII centuries .
Ma'alot was a Jewish city founded in 1957 , the first settlers of which were immigrants from Morocco and Romania . From 1970-1980, he was actively settled by repatriates from the Jewish Autonomous Region of the USSR .

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics of Israel , the population at the beginning of 2018 was 21,267 people [1] .
Farm
Maalot-Tarshiha has the status of a development city and has its own small industrial zone. The population of the city works mainly in the industrial zones of Nahariya, Karmiel, Acre and the suburbs of Haifa. Migdal Tefen industrial zone was built 4 kilometers from Ma'alot in 1980 , most of which is knowledge-based industry.
Management
A common municipality , operating since 1963 , makes Ma'alot and Tarshiha a single administrative entity (peaceful relations between the Arab and Jewish populations are characteristic of many settlements in Western Galilee). There is almost no mixed residence of Arabs and Jews in the city, and Maalot and Tarshiha are separated by the intercity highway .
Culture
The city is famous for the annual festival of sculptors held near an artificial lake on the outskirts of the city. These sculptures adorn the landscaped streets of the city. Ma'alot is also called the Galilean Switzerland because of the hilly landscape and clean mountain air.
Close neighbors of the city are: the Jewish village of Meon, the Christian village of Meilla, the Jewish village of prestigious villas Kfar Vradim .
