Biography
Born on October 26, 1923 in the village of Chashchino (now - Muchkap district of Tambov region ). He graduated from 7 classes, in 1940 - a driving school in Moscow . He worked as a driver in the city of Omsk .
In the Red Army since November 1942. At the front in World War II from February 1943. He fought on the Voronezh, Stepnoy, 2nd Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the Battle of Kursk, Belgorod-Kharkov, Kirovograd, Korsun-Shevchenkovskaya, Uman-Botoshanskoy and Iasi-Chisinau operations.
The gunner of the 120-mm mortar of the 20th Guards Airborne Rifle Regiment of the Guard, Red Army Sukhorukov, as part of a calculation in August 1944, fired on the approaches to the city of Tirgu-Frumos with accurate fire, covering an enemy cannon, three mortars, several machine-gun points, an ammunition point, exterminated the enemy infantry before platoon. By order of the commander of the 6th Guards Airborne Division of September 29, 1944, for the courage shown in battles with the enemy, guards, the Red Army Sukhorukov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
In October 1944, during the Debrecen operation, the 7th Guards Army entered the Hungarian border, then participated in the Budapest operation, in which corporal Sukhorukov again distinguished himself. Together with battery mortars, during the period from November 22 to December 5, 1944, when breaking through the enemy’s defenses southeast of the Kish-Kartali settlement, he suppressed the enemy’s battery, destroyed four firing points, and incapacitated a lot of manpower. By order of the 7th Guards Army dated March 10, 1945, Corporal Sukhorukov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
On March 25, 1945, during the battles in the Bratislava direction of Sukhorukov with fighters on the banks of the Gron River in the vicinity of the settlement of Tura, supporting the advance of the rifle units, he destroyed four machine guns, a mortar battery, a gun and over the infantry squad. On April 7, 1945, while crossing the Morava River, 11 kilometers west of the town of Malacki, he covered the crossing of the main forces with mortar fire.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, Corporal Vasily Yakovlevich Sukhorukov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree for courage, bravery and heroism shown in the fight against invaders.
In 1947, demobilized. He returned to his native village. He worked as a driver on the farm "Lenin banner." Member of the CPSU since 1957.
Tragically died on March 23, 1974 during a flood.
