Biography
Nikolai Trostinsky was born on May 14, 1919 in Petrograd in the family of civil engineer ND Trostinsky [1] .
In 1929, the family moved to Moscow , here he graduated from high school number 8 [1] .

In 1939, Trostinsky was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army.
He graduated from the Khabarovsk Infantry School, during the training was appointed foreman of a cadet company [1] .
After the start of World War II, he sent reports several times with a request for transfer to the front. In August 1941, he became a lieutenant and was enrolled in the 344th Infantry Division (at that time undergoing formation in Kuibyshev) [1] .
Since November 1941 - on the fronts of World War II [2] , a participant in the defense of Moscow [1] .
In February 1942 he joined the Communist Party [1] .
Since 1943 - commander of a rifle regiment [1] .
He distinguished himself during the crossing of the Desna. The regiment, under the command of Trostinsky, went to the eastern bank of the river in the region of Thirty Dvorts and crossed over to the western bank with improvised means, after which he repelled the German counterattack and went to the flank of the forces of the 260th Wehrmacht infantry division, which occupied the defense along the western bank of the river. As a result, the German defense was broken through, the regiment liberated 16 settlements. For crossing the Desna and accessing the Oster River, Major Trostinsky was awarded the Order of Suvorov, 3rd class [1] .
Subsequently, under the command of N. N. Trostinsky, the regiment crossed the Oster, Sozh and Pronyu rivers [1] .
By June 1944, Lieutenant Colonel Nikolai Trostinsky commanded the rifle regiment of the 344th Infantry Division of the 33rd Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Vitebsk region of the Byelorussian SSR .
On June 27, 1944, the Trostinsky regiment broke through the German defense in the area of the Romanovka hamlet and, having walked about sixty kilometers west in a day and a half, went to the Dnieper and liberated the urban-type settlement Kopys (in the vicinity of which the remains of the 25th motorized, 78th assault and the 337th Wehrmacht infantry divisions). In just three hours, the regiment successfully crossed the Dnieper, captured and expanded the bridgehead on its western shore [1] , which allowed the entire division to freely cross [2] .
On August 16, 1944, Trostinsky died in a battle near Vilkaviskis [1] .
He was buried in the city of Marijampole [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for “exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism”, Colonel Nikolai Trostinsky was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union .
