Biography
Born in 1931 in Portsmouth (New Hampshire), USA one of four children of Denis Chronopoulos and Maria (nee Kapsimalis), emigrants from the city of Olympia, Greece. After receiving secondary education, he served with distinction in the US Marines on the margins of the Korean War.
In the fall of 1954 he entered the Theological School of the Holy Cross in Brookline ( Massachusetts ). After graduating in 1960, he continued his education at the Halkinsky Theological School .
On February 24, 1962, he was tonsured a monk with the name in honor of the prophet Isaiah , and the next day he was ordained a hierodeacon in the Spiridon church in San Diego by the Archbishop of America James (Kukusisom) . March 18 of the same year was followed by his ordination as hieromonk by the Bishop of the Olympic Dimitri (Macris) in the Sofia Cathedral in Los Angeles . He was appointed second priest at Trinity Church in Salt Lake City ( Utah ).
In December 1964, he was transferred to the Temple of St. John the Baptist in the city of Youngstown ( Ohio ).
On November 30, 1969, he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite by Archbishop James (Kukusis) during the consecration of a new church and parish center in Youngstown.
In August 1971 he was appointed inspector of the Greek School and the Theological School of the Holy Cross in Brookline.
Taking leave in February 1975, he entered graduate school at the Theological Faculty of the University of Aristotle in Thessaloniki and fulfilled the requirements for the master’s degree in Theology. In July of the same year, Archimandrite Isaiah returned to his ministry in Brookline. Then, in addition to the inspectorate, in September 1976, he was appointed vice-rector for administrative work.
From October 1977, he also served as temporary rector of St. Nicholas Church in his native Portsmouth (New Hampshire).
After being dismissed from his previous posts, in March 1979 he was appointed Protosynkelle of the newly formed Chicago Diocese .
On April 10, 1986, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate, he was elected titular Bishop of Aspend, vicar of the American Archdiocese. On May 25 of the same year, his episcopal consecration took place in the Trinity Cathedral in New York.
In September 1986 he was appointed to New York, secretary of the archdiocese.
On June 23, 1992 he was elected Bishop of Denver . His plea was followed on September 10 of the same year at the Assumption Cathedral in Denver.
July 1, 1997 to August 14, 1998 - Director of the Greek College and Brookline Theological School of the Holy Cross.
On November 24, 1997, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate, he elevated the dignity of a metropolitan with the title of Prikonissky , leaving the Department of Denver behind him.
On December 20, 2002, the Denver Diocese was elevated to the rank of a metropolis , and in connection with this, Denver began to win titles again.
From 18 to 26 December 2016 was a member of the “ Great and Holy Cathedral ” in Crete [1] .
