Born in Pennsylvania in the family of the manager of the steel company Bethlehem Steel , who lost all his fortune during the 1929 Stock Market Crash . Her acting career began with a theatrical stage, and in 1927 she made her debut on Broadway . After a couple of theatrical roles, Martin moved to Hollywood , where in 1934 she first appeared on movie screens. Her film career, which lasted until 1952, includes about eighty paintings, including Invitation to Happiness (1939), The Man in the Iron Mask (1939), The Bustling City (1940), and The Big Shop (1941) ), "Tales of Manhattan" (1942), "Citizen" (1943) and "Black Angel" (1946). Most of her roles were in the background, and by the end of her career, her participation in films was sometimes not indicated in the credits. [one]
In the early 1950s, Martin had several roles on television, and after 1952 she no longer starred. After completing her career, Martin lived in California , doing charity work. The actress died in 1985 at the age of 76 and was buried in the cemetery of the Holy Cross in Culver City . Her contribution to American cinema is marked by a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
