Geography

Lake Forbes is located between 55 ° 45 'and 56 ° 00' north latitude and 104 ° 30 'and 105 ° 00' west longitude, about 90 km northeast of the city of . From Lake La Ronge to Lake Forbes can be reached by water through a system of lakes and rivers in the Churchill River Basin. Communication with Lake Forbes is also carried out using seaplanes [1] .

Lake Forbes has an elongated shape (approximately 12 km in length and 2 in width) [2] . It is located in a predominantly low-lying area, with hills no higher than 300 m above sea level. Geologically, the area is a layered structure composed of meta-sedimentary and volcanic rocks, which finds expression in the elongated form of lakes and linear ridges of hills. The hills themselves are formed by granite outlets. The topography of the area practically did not feel the influence of glaciers, glacial deposits (sand, clay, gravel, boulders, peat bogs ) are represented by a thin layer that does not always hide the main rock, which outcrops occupy from one third to half of the region’s area [1] . In particular, the northern shore of Lake Forbes and the islands on the lake are composed of acidic igneous rocks ( feldspars , quartz , biotite , probably andesite in some places). There are exits to the surface of basalt and tuff . In the southern part of the lake, metavolcanic (including granite and fine-grained porphyry ) and tuff rocks are interspersed with sedimentary pelites , and psammopelites [3] . Of economic interest are the exits to the surface of pyrrhotites available near Lake Forbes, including in the area adjacent to its southeastern coast and pyrites [1] .

Fauna

The number of fish found in Lake Forbes includes the lake char-Christristomer ( Salvelinus namaycush ), light-pike perch and pike [2] . In the 2010s, catch of lake char in Forbes Lake was limited to one specimen per fisherman [4] .
