Biography
Born February 7, 1925 in the city of Dnepropetrovsk. Member of the CPSU / CPSU since 1963. Graduated 9 classes. He worked as a mechanic at the Dnepropetrovsk steam engine repair plant. When approaching the enemy troops to the city, he joined the people's militia, participated in the battles. In the area of Kharkov I was surrounded, but managed to cross the front line.
In 1943, drafted into the Red Army and sent to the reserve rifle regiment. In the army since February 1943. He fought on the Don, South-West, 3rd Ukrainian and 1st Belorussian fronts. As part of the 284th Infantry Division, he participated in the Battle of Stalingrad , the battles on the Mius River, the liberation of Donbass, Zaporizhia, Odessa, Lublin, Lodz, the fortress cities of Poznan and Kustrin, the crossing of the Dnieper River, the Western Bug, the Vistula and the Oder, and the storming of Berlin.
The sniper of the 216th Guards Rifle Regiment of Guards Corporal Charles on January 14, 1945, when breaking through the enemy defenses on the left bank of the Vistula River near the village of Cecilivka among the first, broke into the enemy's trench, killed eight soldiers from his personal weapon, and took two prisoners.
By order of the commander of the 79th Guards Rifle Division dated February 12, 1945, for the courage shown in battles with the enemy, the guard corporal Charles awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
On February 7, 1945, Charles, in battles for expanding the bridgehead on the left bank of the Oder River near the village of Göritz, repulsed the enemy’s counterattack, advancing to the most dangerous areas, and killed thirteen opponents and two snipers from a sniper rifle. By this time, he had 34 destroyed soldiers and officers.
By order of the 8th Guards Army of March 31, 1945, the guard corporal Charles awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
During the fighting on the outskirts of Berlin, the corporal Charles was appointed as the gunner for a 120-millimeter mortar instead of being out of action. On April 16-20, 1945, as part of the calculation with mortar fire, he hit two cars, three machine guns, put down five firing points, disabled 25 enemy soldiers.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 15, 1946, for the courage, bravery and heroism shown in the struggle against the invaders, the guard corporal Viktor V. Karlov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
In 1950, Sergeant-Major Charles was demobilized. Returned to his hometown. He worked as a grinder in the aggregate plant.
He was awarded the Order of the October Revolution , World War 1 st degree, Glory 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd degree, medals.
