Biography

Born on May 19, 1899 in the village of Appakovo, Alkeevsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan. From an early age, he was hired by a local fist. In 1919, the first village entered the Red Army . He participated in the battles of the Civil War on the Eastern Front, against the Kolchakites.

In 1923 he returned home, graduated from high school, one of the first to join the collective farm. A few years later he moved to the city of Samara, here in 1929 he graduated from the school of navigation technicians. He worked as a topographer in the geodetic party.

At the beginning of 1942 he was again drafted into the Red Army . In the battles of World War II from April 1942. He fought as a sapper, and by the spring of 1944 he became assistant commander of a sapper platoon of the 174th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 57th Guards Rifle Division.

On May 11-13, 1944, while crossing the Dniester River near the village of Sherpeny of the Guard, Sergeant Pestonov, with a group of sappers, skillfully organized the transportation of ammunition and food to units located on the right bank of the river. By personal example, he inspired fighters when repulsing enemy counterattacks.

By order of the Guard of May 20, 1944, Sergeant Pestonov Nikolai Fedorovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

At the end of July 1944, the guard sergeant Pestonov with a group of sappers carried out engineering reconnaissance on the left bank of the Vistula River near the city of Magnushev, neutralized many anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, which helped to force the river to regiment.

By order of the September 7, 1944 Guard, Sergeant Pestonov Nikolai Fedorovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

On April 14, 1945, in a battle for the village of Alt-Tukheband, a group of four sappers under the command of the senior sergeant Pestonov’s guard neutralized over 630 mines under enemy fire, about 200 of them were on Pestonov’s account. On April 17, when the platoon commander was wounded, he took command. In a street battle in the Köpenick suburb of Berlin, mine cleared the street and the barricade. On the night of April 30, reconnoitered the bridge over the Telts Canal and neutralized 8 anti-tank mines.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR of May 15, 1946, for sergeant, courage and fearlessness, shown in battles with enemy invaders of the guard, Senior Sergeant Nikolai Pestonov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree. He became the full holder of the Order of Glory.

In 1945 he was demobilized. He lived in the city of Kuibyshev, Samara. Member of the CPSU / CPSU since 1949. He worked as the leader of the supply group, a foreman at the factory. He died on December 7, 1974.

He was awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, Red Star , Glory of 3 degrees, medals, including "For Courage".
