Shambskaya hydroelectric power station

Shambskaya Hydroelectric Power Station is a hydroelectric power station on the Vorotan River , near the villages of Shamb and Vorotan , Armenia . It is part of the Vorotan cascade , being its middle stage (located between the Spandaryan and Tatev hydroelectric stations ). The most powerful hydroelectric station in the cascade and the second most powerful hydroelectric power station in Armenia. The first hydropower unit was launched in 1978. The owner of the station is ZAO Vorotan Cascade Hydroelectric Power Station.

Station Design

Structurally, it is a dam-derivation hydroelectric power station with pressure derivation and two regulating reservoirs. The composition of hydroelectric power plants: [1]

  • Angekakot concrete spillway dam 23.4 m high, throughput 198 m³ / s;
  • Angekakot reservoir with a total capacity of 3.4 million m³, a useful capacity of 0.5 million m³;
  • a pressureless tunnel 10.5 km long, with a section of 3 × 3 m and a throughput of 23 m³ / s, transferring water to the Tolorsky reservoir ;
  • Tolorsky soil dam with a loamy screen, 69 m high, 188 m long along the ridge;
  • trench spillway with inclined and horizontal sections, throughput 88 m³ / s;
  • Tolorsky reservoir with a total capacity of 96 million m³, useful - 80 million m³, normal backed level (NPU) - 1651.5 m;
  • pressure derivation tunnel with a diameter of 4.6 m, a length of 6.9 km, a throughput of 75 m³ / s;
  • shaft type surge tank;
  • an underground turbine conduit 1.26 km long, branching at the end into two conduits;
  • hydroelectric building;
  • a discharge channel 77 m long;
  • Outdoor switchgear .

Two hydroelectric units with a capacity of 85.5 MW each were installed in the HPP building, with radial-axial turbines operating at a design head of 272 m. A 2.2 m diameter ball valve was mounted in front of each turbine.
