Biography

Ivan Tokmin was born in 1909 in the village of Vydriha (now - Zalesovsky district of the Altai Territory ). After graduating from six grades of school, he worked on a collective farm . In 1934, Tokmin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1935, he graduated from junior high school. He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts [1] .

By October 1943, Captain Ivan Tokmin was deputy commander of the 5th assault battalion of the 12th army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . Having headed the battalion, Tokmin crossed the Dnieper in the Zaporozhye region and seized a bridgehead on its western shore, after which he held it until the main forces crossed. On October 10, 1943, the battalion stormed the Shevchenkovo ​​farm and repelled several German counterattacks. October 24, 1943 Tokmin died in battle [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 1, 1943, Captain Ivan Tokmin was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and Alexander Nevsky [1] .

In honor of Tokmin, a street was named in the village of Cordon in the Zalesovo district, a bust was installed in Zalesovo [1] .
