Biography
Yakov Tokmakov was born on May 1, 1913 in Orekhovo-Zuevo . After finishing four grades of school, he worked at a factory. In 1936 - 1938 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, graduated from the cavalry school of junior commanders. In November 1941, Tokmakov was re-drafted into the army. Since April 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He was wounded three times in battles [1] .
By April 1945, Senior Lieutenant Yakov Tokmakov commanded a company of the 562nd Infantry Regiment of the 165th Infantry Division of the 70th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the forcing of the Oder . On the night of April 18-19, 1945, Tokmakova’s company crossed the Oder-Oder, and on the night of April 21–22, 1945, it crossed the West-Oder, seizing a dam in the interfluve and a bridgehead south of the Mesherin settlement [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, for “courage and heroism shown in crossing the Oder River,” senior lieutenant Yakov Tokmakov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 6153 [1] .
After the war, Tokmakov was sacked. He lived and worked at home. He died on October 24, 1966, was buried at the Orekhovsky cemetery Orekhovo-Zuevo [1] .
He was also awarded two orders of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
