The terrace was originally built in 1792 [1] according to the project of an unknown author.
In the years 1799-1800, under the project of D. Visconti, under the supervision of C. Visconti , an extension with stairs was erected on the sides of the so-called "Old Balcony". According to the surviving contract with Carlo Visconti, his task was to build " an extension to the Old Balcony, which is between the stone bridge and Connetable, on the right side of the road leading from Ingerburg to the palace. "
In the 1880s, the sculptor K. O. Gvidi restored the facing of the terrace, replacing the blocks of Pudost stone with Chernitsky limestone [2] .
During the Great Patriotic War , the terrace balustrade, restored in the 1950s, was partially destroyed. Later, in the late 1980s, the balustrade again suffered damage that was repaired already at the beginning of the XXI century.
When fencing in the 2010s, the territory of the Gatchina Museum-Reserve in the aisles with stairs, double-leaf grates closed with padlocks were installed. Currently, access to the terrace is possible only from the side of the Palace Park.
