Biography
Born on May 15, 1915 in the village of Kapystichi (now the Rylsky District of the Kursk Region ). Early left without a father, he graduated from primary school only. In 1929, among the first set foot in the collective farm. In 1935 he graduated from the six-month courses of tractor drivers. He worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm in the village of Asmolovo in the same district.
In August 1941 he was drafted into the Red Army . From the same time he participated in battles with invaders, fought in the infantry. In the battles for Stalingrad machine gunner Fedotov deserved the first military award - the medal "For Courage". Since the summer of 1943, he fought in the reconnaissance of the 357th Infantry Division. He participated in the battle of Kursk, in heavy defensive battles near Belgorod.
Then there were battles for Kharkov and Poltava, a rush to the Dnieper, the liberation of Kremenchug. In the course of the offensive, reconnaissance group Fedotov, as a rule, went ahead of the attacking troops, took part in capturing "languages", and provided command of information about the enemy’s defense, his obstacle system, and the location of reserves. For courage and courage in the performance of tasks of command, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star .
After the crossing of the Dnieper, the 375th Kharkov Rifle Division took part in the encirclement and defeat of the enemy grouping in the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky area.
On the night of March 8, 1944, being in reconnaissance, in the area of the village of Vodyanoe of the Shpolyansky district of the Cherkasy region, Red Army soldier Fedotov participated in the capture of the “language” as part of a reconnaissance group, which then gave valuable information.
By order of the commander of the 375th rifle division of April 19, 1944, Red Army soldier Nikolai Fedotov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
Developing the offensive, the troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front soon crossed the Dniester. The 375th Kharkov division participated in the Yassy-Kishinev operation, fought in the territory of Romania, Hungary . On September 21, 1944, acting at the head of the group, in the area of the settlement of Belind, together with the soldiers, killed 12 infantrymen and 8 captured them.
In December 1944 - January 1945, the division as part of the troops of the 7th Guards Army fought north of Budapest on the left bank of the Danube, heavy fighting in the Little Carpathians.
On December 17, the reconnaissance group, which included the Red Army soldier Fedotov, penetrated deep into the rear of the enemy. In the area of the settlement of Doroghaz, the scouts discovered an ambush. At dusk, coming from the rear, they suddenly attacked the enemy. The intelligence team in this battle destroyed about two dozen opponents. Fedotov received two wounds, but he continued to fight until the complete destruction of the enemy. For this fight was presented to the award of the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
In early January 1945, the division fought hard on the River Hron. On January 5, Sergeant Fedotov, at the head of the search group, penetrated into the enemy's position, captured the "language" and delivered him to the division headquarters. On January 6, the division, as part of the strike force of the 7th Guards Army, broke through the enemy defenses on the River Hron and, advancing along the left bank of the Danube, rushed after Kommarno to the tanks in order to capture the Danube crossings. Scouts as always went ahead. For this fight was presented to the award of the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
By order of February 9, 1945, Red Army soldier Fedotov Nikolai Fyodorovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
Fedotov reconnaissance war ended in Austria. Victory Day met in Vienna. In November 1945, as having two wounds, was demobilized. Came back home. Already here he found the last front-line award.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, Sergeant Nikolai Fedotov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st Degree for exceptional courage, bravery and fearlessness in battles with enemy invaders. Became a full gentleman of the Order of Glory.
Returning from the front, Fedotov immediately sat down at the tractor's levers. For many years he worked as a mechanic on the Michurin collective farm. In recent years he lived in the town of Rylsk, Kursk Region .
He died on November 27, 1994.
He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree, Red Star , Glory of 3 degrees, medals, including "For Courage."
