Friedrich Hilferding was court choreographer in Vienna and in 1759, sent, at the request of the Empress Elizaveta Petrovna , an Austrian court in the capital of the Russian Empire, the city of St. Petersburg to improve the Russian ballet and introduce in it a “ new taste ”. Together with him came the ballet troupe, which included the soloists Santina, the couple Mekur and Priere, Paradis, as well as the composer Starzer and the driver Brigonzi [2] .
Hilferding's troupe showed for the first time in Russia anthrash of 4 beats, put into use by the famous Parisian dancer Komargo, and pirouettes . Russian artists made progress thanks to the efforts and talent of the Austrian choreographer and very soon they understood the “ new taste ” of his ballets. . Frederick Hilferding introduced the “ village gaiety ” into fashion, that is, the idyllic pastorals that had great success [2] .
Friedrich Hilferding over the next four years put on the Russian stage many ballets. In the summer of 1764, he took leave for several months, went to Vienna, but did not return, sending a request for dismissal from his homeland [2] .
Some of the ballets staged by Hilferdinger were published in Russia; among them: “The Return of Apollonovo to Parnas” (St. Petersburg, 1763), “Acis and Galatea” (St. Petersburg, 1764), “New Lavra” and “Refuge of Virtues” (“Russian Theater”) [2] .
