Biography

Born on February 22, 1918 in the village of Urusovo [1] . Mordvin Father - Sergei Leontievich, a participant in the 1st World War, a full Georges cavalier, died in the Civil War. Ivan from the early years worked in the field, helped his mother with housework, he graduated only from elementary school.

In 1939 he was drafted into the Red Army . He served in the Far East. It met the beginning of the Great Patriotic War . Only in the summer of 1942, the front was sent to Stalingrad. From August 1942 he fought in the regimental intelligence. Member of the CPSU / CPSU since 1943.

In the fall of 1943, senior sergeant Poteshkin fought - the commander of a platoon of foot reconnaissance of the 366th rifle regiment of the 126th rifle division. He participated in the battles for the liberation of Donbass. In the offensive battles from August 22 to September 21, he systematically carried out reconnaissance missions, always showed ingenuity and courage, brought valuable information.

On September 4, at the head of a group of scouts, the first to burst into the city of Gorlovka, on September 18, in a battle for the village, Novo-Rozovka was contused, but remained in the ranks until the end of the battle. He was awarded the Order of the Battle of the Red Banner . In the spring of 1944, as part of his division, he participated in the battles for the liberation of the Crimea.

On April 4, Senior Sergeant Poteshkin at the head of the reconnaissance group seized the outskirts of settlement No. 5. The scouts retained their positions until the main forces approached, destroying 25 opponents without loss for themselves. On April 10, with a group of fighters, they secretly penetrated the town of Buzov-Aktash to carry out a reconnaissance mission. The scouts surrounded the barrier, destroyed 26 enemy soldiers, took 27 prisoners. In a fight with the enemy, Poteshkin personally exterminated about 10 opponents and seized valuable documents and maps, which he delivered to headquarters.

By order of the 126th Infantry Division of April 26, 1944, Senior Sergeant Poteshkin Ivan Sergeevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

After the end of the fighting for the Crimea, the 2nd Guards Army, which included the 126th Infantry Division, was transferred to the north and in July 1944 was included in the 1st Baltic Front .

On October 10, 1944, at the settlement of Shilale, foreman Poteshkin led a group of intelligence officers into battle with the enemy. During the fight, he blew up a car, hit more than 10 enemy soldiers.

By order of the troops of the 2nd Guards Army of December 12, 1944, Sergeant-Major Poteshkin Ivan Sergeevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

In the period from January 24 to February 10, 1945, in the battles in East Prussia, Sergeant-Major Poteshkin proved himself a brave and enterprising reconnaissance commander, repeatedly carried out reconnaissance of the leading edge and delivered important intelligence about the enemy. On February 4, 1945, southwest of the city of Königsberg, by repelling the enemy’s counterattack, destroyed up to 10 opponents and took 2 prisoners.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 19, 1945, Sergeant-Major Poteshkin Ivan Sergeevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st Degree for exceptional courage, bravery and fearlessness in battles with enemy invaders. Became a full gentleman of the Order of Glory.

After the victory, he continued to serve in the army, remained on extra urgent. In 1969, Poteshkin was dismissed.

He returned to his native village Urusovo. He worked as head of the grain farm on the farm. He died on June 24, 1992.

He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner , World War 1 st degree, Red Star , Glory 3 degrees, medals.
