Biography
Valentin Titov was born on April 22, 1919 in Smolensk . After graduating from high school, he went to study at the Kharkov Military Medical School, however, without completing his studies, he transferred to the Kharkov Infantry School. He graduated in 1939 . Participated in the battles at Khalkhin Gol . Since October 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He was wounded three times in battles [1] .
By April 1945, Major Valentin Titov commanded the 2nd Motorized Rifle Battalion of the 17th Guards Mechanized Brigade of the 6th Guards Mechanized Corps of the 4th Guards Tank Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . Distinguished himself during the Berlin operation . On April 16 - May 2, 1945, the Titov battalion crossed the Spree and was among the first to enter Potsdam , inflicting heavy losses on the enemy in military equipment and manpower and successfully meeting with units of the 1st Belorussian Front [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945 for "courage and heroism shown at the front of the struggle against the German invaders," the guard Major Valentin Titov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 8688 [ 1] .
After the war, Titov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1948 he graduated from the Shot courses. Lieutenant Colonel Valentin Titov died suddenly on October 20, 1951, was buried in the town of Maryina Gorka, Minsk Region, Belarus [1] .
He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , orders of Kutuzov 3rd degree, Alexander Nevsky , World War 2 degree and Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
