Biography

He was born in July 1908 in the mine village of Mitrofanovsky in the North Yenisei region of the Krasnoyarsk Territory . He worked as a loader in the gold mining department.

In the Red Army and at the front in World War II since 1942. He fought on the South-West, 3rd Ukrainian and 1st Belorussian fronts. Participated in the Battle of Stalingrad , the offensive in the Donbass direction, the liberation of Ukraine, Poland , battles in Germany .

A combat engineer of a sapper platoon of the 101st Guards Rifle Regiment of the Guard, Red Army man Shchetinin, in preparation for crossing the Vistula River in the vicinity of the city of Magnushev, prepared improvised means of crossing.

August 1, 1944 carried out the crossing of the river personnel and equipment. With the last rifle unit, he landed on the right bank of the river and participated in the battles to hold and expand the bridgehead, destroyed 12 enemy soldiers.

By order of the commander of the 35th Guards Rifle Division of August 15, 1944, for the courage shown in battles with the enemy, the Red Army soldier Shchetinin was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

On January 14, 1945, during the breakthrough of the enemy’s heavily fortified defense in the vicinity of the settlements of Głovaczów, Lezhenice Szczetinin was one of the first to pass under enemy fire in minefields and wire fences of the enemy for rifle units of the assault detachment.

By order of the 8th Guards Army of February 8, 1945, the Red Army soldier Shchetinin was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

On April 17, 1945, 5 kilometers northwest of the city of Zelov, under the fire of the enemy, Shchetinin made two passes in minefields and wire fences.

On April 24, 1945, when crossing the Telt channel with a group of sappers under machine-gun and automatic fire, the enemy cleared the bridge over the channel for the advancing units of the regiment and tanks.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946 for courage, courage and heroism, the Red Army man, Shchetinin Prokopiy Dmitrievich, was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.

In October 1945, demobilized. He lived in the city of Yeniseisk. He worked in the Yenisei office of Soyuzzoloto, at the Yenisei regional veterinary station. In 1977, Prokopiy Dmitrievich Shchetinin was awarded the title "Honorary Citizen of the city of Yeniseisk."

He was awarded the Orders of Glory of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree, medals.

He died on January 19, 1979. He was buried in the city cemetery of the city of Yeniseisk.
