History
In the 1980s, due to the increase in passenger commuter and intercity bus traffic, the Topkapi bus station in Istanbul stopped coping with passenger traffic and opening new routes. In this regard, in late 1987, it was decided to build another bus station in the city, according to a modern project that could serve several dozens of intercity and suburban bus routes at the same time. For this, construction began in the area of Bairapasha. The bus station, known as the “Grand Istanbul Bus Station,” was commissioned in 1994 [1] . The cost of construction amounted to 140 million dollars [2] .
Location
The building of the bus station is located in the European part of Istanbul, in the Bairapasha district. It is the largest bus station in southeastern Europe and in Turkey, with an area of 242,000 m². The terminal has 324 platforms [1] . There are routes arriving and departing in almost all cities of Turkey. There are also routes to neighboring countries and countries in Europe.
