The Apostolic Administrator of Oviedo from January 8 to November 21, 2009. Archbishop of Valencia from January 8 2009 to August 28, 2014. Archbishop of Madrid from August 28, 2014. Vice-President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference from March 12, 2014. Cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Trastevere since November 19, 2016.
