AIA Central (友邦 金融 中心, formerly known as AIG Tower ) is a 40-story Hong Kong skyscraper located in the Central District . Built in 2005 in the style of modernism. The total cost of the project was 513 million US dollars. The original owners of the building were American Insurance Company American International Group , Singapore’s real estate operator CapitaLand and Hong Kong conglomerate Lai Sun Group . There are two underground floors, 90 parking spaces. The skyscraper's design resembles the sail of a Chinese junk — the traditional symbol of Hong Kong [1] [2] [3] [4] .

Since the 1930s, the first office of AIG insurance company in Hong Kong has been located at this place. In 1977, the 33-storey Furama Kempinski Hotel (110 m) was built, bought in 1997 by the Lai Sun Group and demolished in 2001-2002 (after the Asian financial crisis, Lai Sun Group was forced to sell part of its assets, including half of the shares Singaporean-American consortium hotel) [1] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] . In July 2009, the skyscraper was renamed from AIG Tower to AIA Central (its main tenant is the insurance company AIA Group ) [10] .
