Shevchuk, Stepan Sergeevich

Stepan Sergeyevich Shevchuk ( February 6, 1977 , Engels ) - a Russian kayaker , played for the Russian team in the 2000s. Three times a bronze medalist of the world championships, winner of silver and bronze medals of the European championships, multiple winner and medalist of the World Cup, champion of national and youth regattas. At the competition he represented the Saratov region, a master of sports of international class. Also known as kayaking and canoeing coach.

Biography

Stepan Shevchuk was born on February 6, 1977 in Engels , Saratov Region . He began to actively engage in kayaking in early childhood, was trained at the Saratov Regional Specialized Children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve under the guidance of his own father S. S. Shevchuk.

He achieved his first serious success in 1998 by winning two bronze medals at the Russian Championship in Krylatskoye, in the classification of kayaks-fours at distances of 200 and 500 meters [1] . In 2001, he became the silver medalist of the World Cup stage, in 2003 he made his debut at the World Cup, but failed to get into the number of medalists.

At the international level, Shevchuk first made his name in the 2004 season, when he joined the main team of the Russian national team and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the European Championships in Poznan, Poland. With teammates Sergey Khovansky , Oleg Chertov and Andrei Tissin, he won silver and bronze medals, in two at two hundred meters and four at five hundred meters, respectively [2] .

In 2006, Shevchuk won the Russian Cup, after which he went to the World Cup in Szeged, Hungary, from where he brought a bronze dignity, won in the fours at a distance of 200 meters - while his partners were Sergey Kosilov , Konstantin Vishnyakov and Sergey Khovansky [3 ] . A year later, he repeated this achievement at a competition in Duisburg, Germany, with the same crew except Kosilov, who was replaced by Anton Vasiliev . In 2009, he won silver in the same discipline at the European Championships in Brandenburg, was a crew member, which included Sergey Khovansky, Roman Zarubin and future Olympic champion Alexander Dyachenko . Later, with the same composition, he won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Canadian Dartmouth, for the third time in a row he became a bronze medalist in the fours at a two-hundred-meter distance [4] .

Shortly after these competitions, Stepan Shevchuk decided to end the career of a professional athlete and switched to coaching. For outstanding sports achievements he was awarded the honorary title " Master of Sports of Russia of the international class ." He is currently working with his father as a kayaking and canoeing trainer in the Saratov Regional Specialized Children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve.
