Biography

Born on July 12, 1921 in the village of Verkhny Lomovets (now Dolgorukovsky District, Lipetsk Region ). He graduated from grade 4. He was a turner at an aircraft factory in the city of Voronezh.

In 1940 he was drafted into the Red Army . At the front in World War II from October 1942. Particularly distinguished himself at the final stage of the war, in the battles for the liberation of Poland in the winter and spring of 1945 as part of the 314th Infantry Regiment of the 46th Infantry Division.

On January 25, 1945, near the settlement of Marienverder, when repulsing an enemy counterattack, the Red Army soldier Zhdanov hit 12 soldiers from a machine gun. By order in parts of the 46th Infantry Division of February 6, 1945, Red Army soldier Zhdanov Pyotr Timofeevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

On February 16, 1945, in a battle west of the village of Graudenz, when breaking through the enemy’s defenses and expanding the bridgehead on the left bank of the Vistula River, Zhdanov was the first to attack, dragging the fighters behind him. In this battle, he destroyed 4 enemy soldiers and 3 captured. He was presented for awarding the Order of Glory .

March 2, 1945 near the city of Danzig Zhdanov, as part of a group of machine gunners, wedged into the enemy’s position, inflicted damage on him in manpower and captured 36 soldiers with the soldiers. He was again presented for awarding the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, but the division commander changed the status of the award to the Order of Glory of the 1st degree ..

By order of the troops of the 2nd shock army of March 25, 1945, Red Army soldier Zhdanov Pyotr Timofeevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, Red Army soldier Zhdanov Pyotr Timofeevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree for exemplary execution of command assignments in battles with German-enemy invaders. He became the full holder of the Order of Glory.

In 1946, foreman Zhdanov was demobilized. He returned to his native village, worked for many years as a blacksmith on a collective farm. Member of the CPSU / CPSU since 1951. He died on March 16, 2009.

He was awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, Glory of 3 degrees, medals, including the medal "For Courage".

In July 2009, a memorial plaque was installed on the house where the veteran lived.

The name in the village of Dolgorukovo is named after Peter Zhdanov.
