Biography
Representative of the genus Amboise. Born in royal France in 1488. He was one of 16 children of Jean IV Amboise, Senor de Bussy, Governor of Normandy and Catherine de Saint-Belin. In the years 1497-1512, his father was the ordinator of the diocese of Langra .
The nephew of Cardinal and Minister Louis XII of France, Georges Amboise (1460-1510).
In 1509 he was appointed archdeacon of the Cathedral of Rouen . Later - by his treasurer.
On August 8, 1511, George II Amboise was elected Archbishop of Rouen and succeeded his uncle, Georges Amboise . Approved in dignity in December 1513, received the mantle on March 9, 1514. He served as archbishop of Rouen until his death in 1550.
Possessing considerable wealth, in 1521 he refused to pay the king a tax of 27,000 ecu , in connection with which Francis I ordered his arrest. Georges II Amboise was released from prison only a few months after the intervention of the pope.
In 1523, in order to avoid the seizure of all the property of the church of his diocese, he was forced to pay taxes. In 1542, the king again forced him to deposit 100,000 ecu in the form of taxes.
Pope Paul III made him a cardinal priest on December 16, 1545. Due to his illness, he did not go to Rome to receive a cardinal hat , in connection with which it was sent to him on March 15, 1546.
He participated in the papal conclave of 1549-1550, who elected Pope Julius III .
Before his death, he served as governor of Neustria, a region in the west of the Lombardia, for some time.
He died in the castle of Vigny , near Paris on August 25, 1550. Buried in the Rouen Cathedral .
