Key Features
- As in South Valencia dialect , the definite article of both masculine and feminine forms es before the noun, which begins with the consonant: es bous - “bulls”, es vaques - “cows”; before nouns beginning with a vowel, the article retains its usual literary form: els alacantins - “men are residents of Alakan”, les alacantines - “women are residents of Alakan”;
- Literary pronunciation of the letter -ix- (without [j] ): caixa → ['kaʃa] ;
- Transition of the diphthong [ɔw] to [aw] : bou → [baw] - “bull”, ou → [aw] - “egg”, pou → [paw] - “well”;
- The disappearance of intervocal -d- in the suffix -uda : grenyuda → grenyua , vençuda → vençua . A similar process in some other words: roda → roa , cadira → caira “chair”, poder → poer . In the Bach-Vinalopo mosquito, the inter -vocal -d- disappears in all words;
- The frequent use of the demonstrative pronoun aquí - “here, near” - instead of the normative ací ; instead of the normative açò , the regional form astò is used ;
- The final -r is not pronounced;
- A large number of borrowings from the Spanish language (more than in other dialects): llimpiar instead of netejar - “clean up”, sacar instead of traure - “pull out”, assul instead of blau - “blue”, niebla instead of boira - “fog”, mueble instead of moble - “furniture”. Despite this, in the valley of the Vinalopo river cat. (includes the municipalities of Elche , Crevillent , Guardamar del Segura and Santa Pola ) the words abans , ans and denans are preserved , which in other dialects of the Valencian dialect are replaced by borrowed from the Spanish antes ;
- As in the North Valencia dialect , the palatalization of the tz group is fixed : setze ['sedze] → [' seddʒe] ;
- As in South Valencia dialect , a change in the pronunciation of vowels is fixed depending on the previous vowel, the so-called syngarmonism . In parallel, there are two types of syngarmonism, when the final -a begins to be read in different ways:
- read as [-ɛ] or [-ɔ] if the previous syllable contains respectively [ɛ] or [ɔ] : dona → ['dɔ • nɔ] , terra → [' tɛ • rɛ] ;
- reads as [-ɛ] , if the previous syllable contains [ɛ] (the presence of [-ɔ] does not affect phoneme changes): dona → ['dɔ • na] , terra → [' tɛ • rɛ]
