Description
Small ants, females are yellowish brown, workers are buffy-yellow (body length about 3 mm). The head and most of the chest are smooth and shiny. The eyes are large, located in the middle of the lateral edges of the head. The stalk between the chest and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, pupae are naked (without cocoon ). Propodeum with 2 short and wide propodeal spines. The abdomen is smooth and shiny. The general habitus is similar to the ants of the genus Temnothorax , the social parasites of which they are [2] [3] [1] [4] .
Guard Status
The species is recognized by IUCN as being in a vulnerable position and is included in the International List of Ants listed in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN in the Vulnerable (VU) status [5] .
Systematics
The species was first described in 1989 by the Ukrainian worldmecologist Alexander Radchenko ( Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine , Kiev ) using typical material from the Crimea. In 2014, during a revision of the myrmycin subfamily, it was proposed to synonymize the genus Chalepoxenus with the genus Temnothorax , in connection with which the species Chalepoxenus tauricus was renamed to Temnothorax inquilinus Ward, Brady, Fisher & Schultz, 2014 (due to the identity with the old name Ruzurus Temurothus 1902 ; secondary homonymy according to ICZN ) [6] .
