Creation History
“Behind Two Hares” is one of the first performances of the new, only established Kiev Youth Theater. After the release of the debut productions, the replenishment of the poster and the expansion of the repertoire were urgently required. They invited Cherkasy director Viktor Shulakov to the production (for his first production in theatrical Kiev). [1] [3]
The director found out about the choice of the play only upon arrival in Kiev . Having agreed to the production, Shulakov met with the director of the film of the same name , which thundered in 1961 throughout the Union , Viktor Ivanov , who told him:
Boy, don’t tackle this material, you won’t beat the film anyway!
This turned out to be a challenge that Shulakov accepts. [five]
Casting
At the first meeting with the actors, the director asked me to fill out a questionnaire in which I had to answer the questions: “What role do I want to play in the play?” And “What can I play?”. Beginning actress Tamara Yatsenko in both cases wrote “Pronya” without even hoping that she could get this role.
During rehearsals, the actress, previously approved for the role of Proni, did not like the director at all, and he offered to try Tamara. During the reading of Proni's monologue, everyone held on to their bellies. So Yatsenko became Proneus. [6]
According to the director’s story, the feeling that the actress for the role of Proni was found occurred at the moment when he found her backstage, all in tears, and asked to sing, playing her piano. Heard result convinced of the correct choice. [five]
Three performers were approved for the role of Svirid Petrovich Golokhvostogo, who played in line: Valery Legin - a refined dandy, Yaroslav Gavrilyuk - a cunning peasant, Valentin Makarenko - a large and reliable man. With such different partners, Prona managed to remain invariably the same. [3]
Performance Life
During the premiere performance, at the end of the first act, the performer of the role of Golokhvastovo, Yaroslav Gavrilyuk , breaks his arm. Arriving at the call, the ambulance insists on the hospitalization of the actor and the cessation of the performance. Gavrilyuk disagrees with this and decides to continue playing. Bandages are applied to him and the stage partners (actors Grigory Gladiy and Oleg Primogenov) and in the second act, three friends go on stage with the same supposedly broken hands ... [5]
In 1983, under the heading "Victor Shulakov's Poetry Theater", in the Moscow magazine "Theater" appeared the material of the theater expert Sergei Nikolaevich , who first got on the play "For Two Hares", which amazed him so much that he extended his business trip in Kiev to familiarize himself with other performances Shulakova. After publication at the Youth Theater, a large delegation arrived from Moscow , led by People's Artist of the USSR Angelina Stepanova and playwright Alexander Stein to evaluate the work of the director. [2]
The performance was so great that the Kiev pranksters offered to place hare ears on the curtain of the Young Theater - taking the Moscow gull as a sample. Critics called this performance "the hallmark of Kiev." [2]
The Golden Gate shopping mall for television made a shooting of the 600th performance, consisting of two 60-minute parts (director N. Grabchenko). [four]
On April 6, 1996, the play was shown for the 800th time. [1] During the stage life, many actors in the play changed. However, the main performers were Yaroslav Gavrilyuk and Tamara Yatsenko , the viewer still demanded tickets only for them. [7]
