It was conceived by the general plan of the 1930s as the northern (relative to Moscow , which should become the center of the new Leningrad) round square on Moskovsky Prospekt. Victory Street, which passes through it, was supposed to reach the current square of the Constitution . However, in the 1960s, the section between Warsaw Street and Constitution Square was built up with a Khrushchev quarter.
Initially, the area did not have a name [1] . On August 12, 2014, the square was given the name Square of the Strugatsky Brothers [2] . It is given in honor of the science fiction writers of the Strugatsky brothers ( Boris and Arkady Strugatsky). The choice of location is due to the fact that Boris Strugatsky in 1964 - 2012 lived near this square on Victory Street, 4 [3] [4] . For the first time, the idea to name the Strugatsky street or square in St. Petersburg was made by the deputy of the Legislative Assembly B. L. Vishnevsky immediately after the death of Boris Strugatsky in November 2012 [5] [6] .
“I think many residents of St. Petersburg are now proud that the Strugatsky brothers square is in the Moscow district of the city,” Vladimir Rublevsky, head of the administration of the Moscow region of St. Petersburg
The area is an enclosed space surrounded by "stalines". The area is cut by carriageways of Moscow Avenue and Frunze Street. They form four squares.
