Corps Battle Path
3rd Guards Bomber Aviation Stalingrad Corps Directive of the General Staff No. Org.10 / 315706 formed December 26, 1944 by converting the 7th Aviation Bryansk long-range corps [1] [2] .
At the final stage of the war in 1945, the corps participated in the rout of the enemy near Königsberg , on the Kystrin bridgehead and in the Berlin offensive operation.

During the period of combat work in April 1945, the corps carried out 1,868 combat sorties with a total raid of 7964 hours, dropped 7272 pcs. bombs with a total weight of 1,455.152 tons. The loss of personnel amounted to 46 people, the materiel - 8 aircraft, 5 of them fighting [3] .

Post-war corps history
After the end of the war, the corps was redeployed from the airfield hub Minsk-Mazovian to the Bobruisk airfield hub. From April 1946 to the corps as part of the 1st Air Army of the long-range aviation, established on the basis of the 3rd Air Army [6] .
In 1949, the 3rd Guards Bomber Aviation Corps was renamed the 79th Guards Bomber Aviation Corps, and the 1st Long-Range Aviation Army — the 50th Long-Range Aviation Army [6] [7] .
At the end of 1949, the corps divisions began to receive new aviation equipment - Tu-4 aircraft, equipped with an air refueling system and capable of delivering retaliatory strikes against the United States advanced bases in Western Europe and in England. Corps, divisions and regiments to the name received the additional name "heavy." Since 1949, the corps has been referred to as the 79th Guards Heavy Bomber Air Corps [6] .
In March 1951, a new division was deployed on the basis of the formations and units of the corps - the 160th heavy bomber aviation division consisting of two regiments on Tu-4 aircraft at the Vitebsk aerodrome at the Bolbasovo airfield. By 1955, the division consisted of three divisions, by 1956, all divisions began to retool on new aircraft - the Tu-16 , a heavy twin-engine multi-purpose jet aircraft with the ability to deliver nuclear ammunition. In July 1956, the corps was disbanded, the divisions were transferred to the direct subordination of the 50th long-range air army [6] .
