Together with Mount Unaby and Mount Miminashi, it belongs to the so-called “ Three Mountains of Yamato ”. Consists of gabbro rock. It is a former part of the Tomine massif of the Ryumont Range, from which it stood out in the process of erosion. Unlike other “Yamato mountains”, it is a mountain of non-volcanic origin.
At the western foot of the mountain are the ruins of the Imperial Palace of the ancient Japanese capital Fujiwara.
The mountain is sung in ancient Japanese songs and traditions, in particular, in the works of the first Japanese poetry collection " Manyoshu ".
