Biography
Born into the family of William Hathaway Forbes, president of the Bell Telephone Company and Edith Emerson, daughter of poet Ralph Emerson.
In 1892 he graduated from Harvard University . In 1904-1908 he was the Commissioner of Police of the Philippines. In 1908-1909 - Vice Governor of the Philippines. In 1909-1916 - Governor General of the Philippines.
In the years 1930-1932 - US ambassador to Japan. At this time, Japan occupied the Manchuria.
