Seventeen ( box 세븐틴 , also styled as SEVENTEEN or SVT ), a South Korean boyband formed in 2015 by Pledis Entertainment . The team involved 13 members, who are also members of three sub-groups with different specializations: “Hip-Hop”, “Vocal” and “Performances”. The debut took place on May 26, 2015 with the mini-album 17 Carat .

Career
Prebut
In 2013, the UStream platform began broadcasting the Seventeen TV show. During the broadcasts, fans could watch Seventeen workouts in their rooms. The show had several seasons during which the trainings were presented to the public, and some seasons ended with Like Seventeen concerts [3] [4] .
Before the debut, the group took part in the reality show Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan , which took place from May 20 to May 26, 2015. It ended with the debut showcase of the team [5] .
2015: Debut with 17 Carat and Boys Be
Seventeen debuted at the showcase on May 26th. They were the first male k-pop group to debut on the main channel watch showcase (MBC), where Lizzie and Raina were as MCs . Three days later, their first mini-album “17 Carat” was released on digital media, as well as the premiere of the video for the main track “Adore U” [6] . The album was released on physical media on June 2. The album debuted in ninth place on the Billboard world chart , and a week later rose to eighth line, holding a total of 11 weeks [7] . 17 Carat was the only album of the year that could last more than 10 weeks on the US main chart [8] , and also the only new album that Billboard was listed as “The Top 10 K-Pop Albums of 2015” [9] .
On September 10, the second mini-album “Boys Be” was released (in two versions), and a video for the single “Mansae” was released. The album’s pre-order was 30,000 copies, and later it became the best-selling new album of 2015 [10] . He made his debut at the top of the Billboard world album chart [11] and allowed the group to receive awards at the Golden Disk Awards , Seoul Music Awards and the Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards [12] . Seventeen was the only k-pop group to make it onto the list of “21 Under 21 in 2015: The Hottest Youngest Stars List” compiled by Billboard [13] . December 4, the premiere of the single "Q&A", recorded by Escups, Uji and Vernon with the participation of Ailee . The track was produced by Uji [14] .
From December 24 to 26, the group held 4 concerts as part of the 2015 Like Seventeen - Boys Wish , timed to the end of the year, and performed at the Yongsan Art Hall in Seoul . Tickets were sold out in less than a minute [15] . Two more dates were added later - February 13 and 14, and tickets were sold out in less than five minutes [16] . At the second concert, the official name of their fandom was announced - Carat ( cor. 캐럿 ) [17] .
2016: Love & Letter , Asia & Going Seventeen Tour
The first full-length album, Seventeen, was released on April 25, 2016 and is called “Love & Letter”. It was released in versions of “Love” and “Letter”, which, according to the idea, was quite similar to their previous mini-album “Boy Be”, which was also released in two versions. By pre-orders, more than 150,000 copies of the album were sold before the release, which allowed him to debut from the top of the album chart in Japan [18] . The video for the single “Pretty U” was released on April 24 after the band's showcase [19] . The album debuted at the top of the Gaon Album Chart [20] and at third place on the Billboard world album chart. On May 4, Seventeen won their first television victory with the song “Pretty U” [21] , and the album finished fourth in Gaon's semi-annual chart [22] .
On July 4, their album was released as a reprint of Love & Letter Repackage [23] . The promotion for the single “Very Nice” began with the first Asian tour of the 1st Asia Tour 2016 Shining Diamonds , which included concerts in Japan, Singapore, Australia and China [24] . A series of concerts began on July 30 and 31 in South Korea, and 13,000 tickets were sold on the show. [25]
On November 1, members of the hip-hop sub-band presented the Check-In mixtape [26] , which is a prologue to their third mini-album, “Going Seventeen,” which was released on December 5 in three versions: Make a Wish , Make it Happen and Make the Seventeen [27] . The album debuted on the Gaon Album Chart with sales of over 130,000 copies in its first week [28] . The single "Boom Boom" also managed to win the TV show Music Bank and M Countdown [29] .
2017: 17 Japan Concerts , Al1 , Teen, Age and the first world tour
From February 15-24 , 2017, Seventeen performed six concerts in Japan under the name 17 Japan Concert: Say The Name #Seventeen . The total attendance was more than 50 thousand people, although there was no official debut of the team in the country [30] . Their stay in Japan was also due to the fact that they took part in the One Fine Day program, which premiered in March [31] .
May 22, the release of the fourth mini-album Al1 [32] . After the end of the promotion, the group went on their first world tour 2017 Seventeen 1st World Tour “Diamond Edge” [33] . On November 6, Teen released their second full-length album , Age .
2018: Director's Cut, Japanese debut and You Make My Day
On February 5, 2018, Director's Cut released a special album [34] . It was also announced that Seventeen's Japanese debut would take place on May 30. [35] Although Director's Cut contained all the tracks from the previous Teen, Age album, it was promoted as a special album instead of being repackaged due to four new tracks, including the lead single "Thanks". Thanks took first place on iTunes charts in 29 countries, including North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Time magazine named Seventeen one of the best K-pop bands for the promotion period. Seventeen officially debuted in Japan on May 30 with their first Japanese mini-album, We Make You . [37] The music video for the lead single, “Call, Call, Call!” Was released on May 16. [38]
Seventeen released their fifth mini-album, You Make My Day , on July 16th. You Make My Day broke the group’s personal record for most sales in the first week after release [39] and was their first release to be awarded platinum status. Promotions for this album took place between Ideal Cut concerts in Seoul and concerts planned in other Asian countries. [40] [41]
2019: You Made My Dawn and Happy Ending
Seventeen released their sixth mini album You Made My Dawn on January 21. [42] [43] [44] The title track Home is considered their most popular release, winning ten awards at weekly music shows. The album also reached two Triple Crowns , which consist of three consecutive wins on any weekly music show, and a Grand Slam , which consists of winning trophies at Music Bank , Inkigayo , M Countdown , Show! Music Core and Show Champion in one promotion period. [45] [46] This is the group’s best-selling release to date. [47]
On May 29th, Seventeen released their first Japanese single, Happy Ending. The release reached # 1 on the Oricon Daily Singles Chart, [49] and continued to receive platinum status from the RIAJ . [50]
2019: You Made My Dawn
Seventeen released their sixth EP You Made My Dawn on January 21. The title track Home is considered their most popular release, winning ten trophies on weekly music shows. The EP also reached two triple crowns, which consist of three consecutive victories on any weekly music show, and a grand helmet, which consists of winning trophies at Music Bank , Inkigayo , M Countdown , show! Music Core and show Champion in one promotion period. This is the group’s best-selling release to date.
