History
It traces its history to the 223rd short-range bomber aviation division , created on May 18, 1942 on the basis of the 7th strike air group.
On June 27, 1943, the 223rd Near Bomber Aviation Division was transformed into the 223th Bomber Aviation Division.
Battle Path
As part of the army: From May 18, 1942 to October 21, 1942. From December 1, 1942 to June 27, 1943.
At the end of November 1942, the division as part of the 2nd Bomber Aviation Corps merges with the 16th Air Army, focuses on airfields in the Stalingrad region.
On November 30, 1942, the division took part in the counterattack of Soviet troops near Stalingrad , and then in the blockade of the encircled enemy group.
Starting January 10, 1943, units of the division take part in the operation of the Don Front troops to eliminate the encircled enemy group. The plan of the operation was planned on the night of January 10 by the actions of night bombers to disrupt the control of enemy troops. Then followed the powerful attacks of the 2nd Bomber Aviation Corps and the 228th Shad . At the same time, fighters of the 220th IAD were supposed to block airfields located in the encirclement ring, and during the day by day bombers and attack aircraft to upset possible counterattacks and prevent the approach of reserves. These actions were reliably provided by fighters and aerial reconnaissance.
On February 2, 1943, the remnants of the enemy group were over.
By order of the NPO No. 207 of May 4, 1943, the 10th Red Banner High-Speed ββBomber Regiment was given the honorary name "Leningradsky"
On September 3, 1943, the 223rd Bomber Aviation Division, for successfully conducted combat operations in the Spas-Demen operation, was transformed by Order of the USSR NCO No. 265 into the 4th Guards Bomber Aviation Division .
The 4th Guards Bomber Aviation Borisov Red Banner Division ended the war as part of the 5th Guards Bomber Aviation Vitebsk Corps of the 15th Air Army , Leningrad Front, blocking the Kurland enemy group.
