Biography
Born May 5, 1922 in the village of Dubrovka, Gorodok district, Vitebsk region of Belarus, in a peasant family. In 1937, after the completion of the seven-year plan, he was sent to study at the Grozny Petroleum College. He worked as a stoner in the mines of Donbass.
The beginning of World War II caught him in his native land. Forced to remain in the occupied territory. In the summer of 1942 he went to the partisans. In the fall of 1942 he was sent to study at the 1st Moscow Special Subversive School. Since May 1943, as part of the Kalinin partisan brigade, he participated in special operations to free the besieged Leningrad. He was awarded the Order of the Red Star . In one of the battles he was wounded, sent for treatment to a hospital in the city of Leningrad.
In April 1944 he was drafted into the Red Army by the October District Military Commissariat of the city of Leningrad. He was sent to the 72nd Infantry Division, and, as having combat experience in sabotage work in a partisan detachment, he was enlisted in the intelligence platoon of the 14th Infantry Regiment. The entire further military path was part of this regiment. He fought on the Leningrad and 1st Ukrainian fronts.
On June 12-13, 1944, in offensive battles to break through the enemy’s defenses near the village of Beloostrov and during the crossing of the Sestra River, Sergeant Doroshenko discovered three enemy firing points that were destroyed by regimental artillery. The capture group, which included Sergeant Ivan Doroshchenko, produced the “language”.
By order in parts of the 72nd Infantry Division of July 2, 1944, Sergeant Doroshchenko Ivan Vasilievich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree, which was awarded to him on the battlefield, for his courage and bravery shown in battles.
In February 1941, as part of the 21st Army, the division, which included the intelligence officer Doroshchenko, was transferred to the 1st Ukrainian Front , and participated in the battles for the liberation of Poland . In these battles, Sergeant Doroshchenko was already an assistant platoon commander.
On March 24, 1945, near the city of Neisse, Sergeant Doroshchenko captured a passenger car and a communications officer. By this time, during the period of battles, along with platoon fighters, Doroshchenko captured nine “languages” and exterminated over three dozen opponents.
By order of the troops of the 21st Army dated April 12, 1945, Sergeant Doroschenko Ivan Vasilievich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree for courage and bravery shown in battles.
On May 4, 1945, in the battles for the village of Zabten, located fifty kilometers south-east of the city of Lignitz, senior sergeant Ivan Doroshchenko and his scouts destroyed over ten foot soldiers and captured seven, including three enemy officers.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945, for the exemplary performance of command assignments in battles with German-enemy invaders, senior sergeant Doroshchenko Ivan Vasilievich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree, becoming the full holder of the Order of Glory.
June 24, 1945 I.V. Doroshenko as part of the consolidated regiment of the 1st Ukrainian Front participated in the Victory Parade in Moscow on Red Square. After the war, he participated in the liquidation of gangs in the Lviv region .
An act committed shortly after the Victory, for a long time crossed out the military merits of a scout. While on vacation at home, in a state of intoxication, he committed theft from a general store. When detained, a captured gun was seized from him. On December 6, 1944, the tribunal of the Vitebsk garrison was convicted under articles 241b and 145a of the Criminal Code of the BSSR to 5 years in prison. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 3, 1950, he was deprived of state awards.
Being in places of detention, due to conflicts with criminals and with the leadership of the camp, he received two more sentences. Only in the 1960s was released.
For some time he lived and worked in the Penza region . In 1979 he returned to his homeland, in the town of Gorodok. He continued his career at the Zaozersky state farm of the Gorodok district. In 1984, retired. He twice asked for reinstatement of the rights to the awards; he was supported by fellow soldiers.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 24, 1985, he was reinstated in the rights to awards.
He lived in the town of Vitebsk region of Belarus. He died on August 28, 2002. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Jezerische of the Gorodok district.
He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Red Star , the Glory of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degrees, the Order "For Service to the Motherland" 3rd degree, medals, including the medals "Partisan of the Patriotic War" 2- degree, “For the defense of Leningrad”, “For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.” Honorary Citizen of Gorodok.
In May 2005, the name of the full holder of the Order of Glory Ivan Vasilyevich Doroshchenko was assigned to the Gorodok State Vocational and Technical College of Agricultural Production.
