Biography

Born on January 6, 1923 in the village of Peschanka (now the Porkhov district of the Pskov region ). He graduated from 7 classes. He worked on a collective farm.

Being in the temporarily occupied territory by the German-enemy invaders of the territory, he fought as a scout in the 5th partisan brigade.

In the Red Army and at the front in World War II from March 1944. He fought on the 3rd Baltic and 1st Ukrainian fronts. He took part in the liberation of the Baltic states, Poland , in battles in Germany .

The footman of the foot reconnaissance platoon of the 811th Infantry Regiment, Red Army soldier Nikolai Sotskov, on August 23, 1944, in the area of ​​the Vernoy village, acting as part of an reconnaissance group to capture the “tongue,” secretly crept up to the enemy’s first trench and threw grenades at the soldiers there. As a result of this sortie, two Nazis were captured.

By order of the 229th Infantry Division of August 25, 1944, for the courage and bravery shown in battles, the Red Army soldier Nikolay Dmitrievich Sotskov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

On September 20, 1944, 20 kilometers south-east of the city of Cesis, a group of soldiers led by Nikolai Sotskov left behind enemy lines, destroyed the enemy firing point calculation, captured two machine guns and returned without loss to the location of the unit.

September 21, 1944 Nikolai Sotskov, acting as part of a group to capture the "language", burst into the enemy’s trench and captured the soldier.

By order of the 54th Army of October 12, 1944, for the courage and bravery shown in the battles, the Red Army soldier Nikolay Dmitrievich Sotskov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

In the period from January 20 to February 12, 1945, the reconnaissance platoon on foot reconnaissance of the 811th Infantry Regiment, Sergeant Nikolai Sotskov, repeatedly fought his way behind enemy lines and delivered valuable intelligence data in battles in Poland and Germany .

February 10, 1945 in the vicinity of the village of Waldau, when in the battle our arrows faltered and began to withdraw, Nikolai Sotskov, by personal example, stopped the fighters who repelled the enemy’s attack.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 10, 1945, for the exemplary performance of command assignments in battles with German-enemy invaders, Sergeant Sotskov Nikolay Dmitrievich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree, becoming the full holder of the Order of Glory.

After the war, he continued to serve in the Armed Forces of the USSR for some time. In 1947, N. D. Sotskov was demobilized. He lived in the village of Peschanka. He worked on the collective farm named after Krupskaya shepherd. In 1962 he became a member of the CPSU . He died on January 26, 1982.

He was awarded the Orders of Glory of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree, medals (including “For Courage” ).
