He prepared and published two scientific papers related to service in submarines.

At the research institute, he actively participated in the development of problems of the subjects of departments and successfully supervised the conduct of a large complex of physiological and biochemical studies to study the issues of a person's prolonged stay under high pressure and habitability of deep-sea equipment. Based on modern scientific methods, he personally performed a significant amount of research. Their results were reflected in the candidate, and then in the doctoral dissertations, defended by V.V. Semko.

In studies to improve the long-stay method for work at depths of up to three hundred meters, V.V. Semko developed a “quick compression” method, which allowed in emergency cases to reduce the time for divers to dive from 10-12 hours to 30 minutes while maintaining a completely satisfactory mental and the physical performance of divers.

During the dives, a record-breaking duration of the stay of the aquanauts under high pressure, corresponding to the maximum depths of the dives of the divers, was achieved. Thus, he made a significant contribution to the improvement of deep-sea diving equipment, methods of physiological studies of man.
