Description
Madagascar Small myrmycin ants are yellowish in color (body length about 5 mm). Head width from 0.72 mm to 0.78 mm. The ratio of the width and length of the head (head index, CI) = 67–70 (head narrow). The ratio of the length of the scapus to the width of the head (scapus index, SI) = 163–170 (long scapus). The working caste is monomorphic. The mandibular palps are 5-segmented, the lower labial palps composed of 3 segments. Antennae 12-segmented (in males 13-segmented). Triangular mandibles with 8-13 teeth on the chewing margin. The head is elongated, narrowed behind the eyes (cervical). The antennae and legs are long. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, pupae are naked (without cocoon ). Posterior breast with long propodeal spines. The abdomen is smooth and shiny [1] .
Systematics
The species was first described in 2014 by the English worldmecologist Barry Bolton ( The Natural History Museum , London , UK ) and the American entomologist Brian Fisher ( BL Fisher ; Department of Entomology, California Academy of Sciences , San Francisco , California , USA ). The species name is given at the place of detection (Galoko chain, Mont Galoko). They differ from closely related species by short propodeal spines, bent anterodozally. A similar rare trait is known in the Southeast Asian genus of ants Recurvidris (Bolton, 1992). Among other representatives of the genus Malagidris, similar propodeal spines are found in the species Malagidris dulcis Bolton & Fisher, 2014 , but they are not curved, but straight [1] [2] .
