John George Agar, Jr. ( born John George Agar, Jr .; January 31, 1921 - April 7, 2002 ) is an American film actor in category B. He gained fame by participating in such films as “ Sands of Iwo Jima ”, “ Fort Apache ”, “ She Wore a Yellow Ribbon ” and “ Tarantula ”. Was the first husband of actress Shirley Temple .

Biography
John Agar was born in Chicago, in the family of meat packer John Agar Sr. and his wife Lilian (née Rogers) [1] . He was educated at Trinity Pauling Preparatory School in Trinity, Harvard Boys School in Chicago, and Lake Forest Academy in Illinois. After the death of John Agar Sr. in 1942, the family moved from Chicago to Los Angeles. During World War II, he served in the at March Field Military Base in Riverside , California . Demobilized in 1946 with the rank of sergeant [2] .
Film career
In 1945, Agar signed a five-year contract with producer David Selznick , which included acting classes [3] . Under the terms of the contract, John received a fee of $ 150 per week. The first works of the actor were the films " Fort Apache " and "Adventures in Baltimore", in which Agara's wife, Shirley Temple , took part. Later, the actor starred in the commercially successful “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” and “Sands of Iwo Jima” [2] . The actor’s career was badly damaged due to a divorce from Temple in 1950, from now on he starred only in low-budget science fiction, westerns and horror films. In subsequent years, he worked actively on television.
Personal life
He met Shirley Temple Agar at a party at David Selznick in 1944, the next year they got married. In the marriage, the couple had a daughter, Linda Susan Agar. But the marriage was fragile and in 1949 Temple filed for divorce [3] [4] . The second wife of the actor was the model of Loretta Barnett Combs (1922 - 2000). In marriage, they had two sons.
Death
John Agar died on April 7, 2002 from complications caused by pulmonary emphysema . He was buried next to his wife at .
