Early elections of the governor of the Orenburg region took place in the Orenburg region on September 14, 2014 on a single voting day . These were the first elections of the head of the region after an 11-year break (the previous elections were held on December 7, 2003 ) and after the State Duma returned the direct elections of governors [1] . The election was won by the current governor, Yuri Berg , who gained 80% of the vote. He was elected for 5 years.

As of July 1, 2014, 1,640,117 voters were registered in the Orenburg Region [2] .

Previous Events
The previous direct election of the governor took place in December 2003. The current governor Aleksey Chernyshev won them. He was elected for a term of 5 years. Before the elections, in June 2003, the legislative assembly of the Orenburg Region increased the term of the governor in office from four to five years. [3] In September 2004, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed replacing direct elections of regional heads with their approval in office by legislative decisions at the president’s suggestion. The corresponding bill was developed and adopted in December 2004.
In May 2005, Alexei Chernyshev in Moscow met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and agreed with him that he would raise the question of trust. In June, an appeal was filed and the president through the approval process by the regional legislative assembly appointed Chernyshev the governor of the Orenburg region for a new five-year term. [4] The inauguration took place on June 15, 2005.
In early May 2010, the United Russia party proposed to President Dmitry Medvedev that three candidates be appointed to the post of governor of the Orenburg Region: Orsk Mayor Yuri Berg , First Vice Governor Sergei Grachev and Chief Federal Inspector for the Region Yury Udovichenko. [5] President Dmitry Medvedev, through the approval process of the regional legislative assembly, appointed Yuri Berg as governor. The inauguration took place on June 15, 2010.
In May 2012, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a law that returned direct elections of regional leaders to Russia [6]. The law entered into force on June 1, 2012.
Berg's governor powers expired in June 2015, but on May 14, 2014, 60-year-old Yuri Berg asked President Putin to resign early for re-election in September 2014 for a new 5-year term. The President granted the request and appointed Berg as Acting Governor of the Orenburg Region.
Candidates
The parties of the Liberal Democratic Party , the Communist Party , " Fair Russia " nominated a single candidate Sergei Katasonov . But at the request of the Russian Prosecutor’s Office, LDPR leader V. Zhirinovsky recalled his candidacy.
8 more candidates were nominated. Of these, only 5 were registered: Yuri Berg (United Russia), Alexander Mitin (HONEST / Man. Justice, Responsibility), Tatyana Titova (Civic Platform), Galina Shirokova (party of Russian pensioners), Abdrakhman Sagritdinov (Party of Veterans of Russia).
