Early years

Dyurryushehvar was born in the Chamlydzh palace in Uskudar on January 26, 1914 . The childhood of the sultans passed in the Sultan's palace Dolmabahce . After the abolition of the caliphate in 1924, Durryushehwar, together with her parents and brother, was exiled in Paris . Later, the family moved to Nice , where Durryushehwar and her brother received education.

Marriage

In exile, wedding proposals began to arrive. The hands of the sultana for their heirs requested the Persian Shah Reza Pahlavi and the King of Egypt Ahmed Fuad I ; in addition, Azam Jah, the eldest son of the last Nizam of the Principality of Hyderabad and the district of Central Provinces and Berar , Asaf Jaha VII, wanted to see her. Princess Durru Shehwar, whose father was interested in modernization reforms and believed in the modern education of women, including his wives and daughters, became a popular public figure immediately upon arrival in Hyderabad. She believed that women themselves could earn a living; in addition, Durru Shehwar helped stop the practice of forcing the burqa.

After the birth of sons in 1933 and 1939, Durru Shehwar personally took up their education. At her insistence, they studied in the UK and married Turkish women. Bypassing her husband, the eldest son of Durru Shehwar, Mukarram, was appointed heir of Asaf Jah VII.

Durru Shehwar became the first woman to attend the opening ceremony of the airport, when in 1940 she opened the airport in Hyderabad. In addition, it is associated with the opening of the . At her insistence, a was built . She also opened the famous Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College Hospital in 1939 at Aligarh Muslim University . Relations with the new government of Turkey at Durryushehwar did not work out.
