Early life
Ironically, Kosov became interested in filmmaking while he was a student in dual economics and politics in Princeton. Although he and his college friend Broderick Johnson shared an interest in the film and entertainment business, none of them began to pursue a filmmaker career. Over time, Johnson graduated from university and moved to New York, where he joined a Wall Street brokerage firm. Kosov graduated from university in a couple of years and intended to enter law school when he heard about Richard Kirkland, a basketball player and a gangster, and decided that he could make a good movie out of his story. Kosov and Johnson spent three years together, working with the producer on this project. The project was not implemented, and they moved to Los Angeles, devoting themselves to producing films for Hollywood and opening the way for their successful eleven-year collaboration. [one]
Career
Immediately after moving to the west, two were introduced to the employee and founder of FedEx, Frederick W. Smith. Johnson and Kosov used the opportunity to present a 221-page proposal to Smith that an independent film company, supported by a capitalized individual or company, and the corresponding main studio for an exclusive distribution agreement, will reap its profits on copyrighted assets for a certain period of time. Smith liked what he read. [one]
Ultimately, Smith chose a partnership with Kosovo and Johnson to finance, develop, and produce Alcon Entertainment . Two producers installed an “office” in a small apartment, which they rented for a week, and later a “real” office after their first project, “Happy Lost”, which turned out to be a box office failure and an instant hit for young producers. However, their second film, which they produced, “My Dog Skip,” came out immediately after production and earned Smith the first true success and admiration for their perseverance and business sense. In 2009, Kosov, along with Johnson, produced the acclaimed Alcon film, box-office hit, The Blind Side , which was nominated for an Oscar for best film and earned Sandre Bullock Award for Best Actress. "The Invisible Side" has collected more than 309 million dollars worldwide and broke box office records, being the first film with the main female role.
Most recently, Kosov produced the film “ The Story of a Dolphin ”, a family 3D film with Morgan Freeman , Harry Konnick Jr. , Ashley Judd and Chris Kristofferson starring. Kosov also produced the film " The Book of Eli ", along with Broderick Johnson and producer Joel Silver . The film was shot by the Hughes Brothers and starring Denzel Washington , Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis . Other films produced by Alcon Entertainment include the cult hits “My Dog Skip”, “ Insomnia ” and “ 16 Quarters ”.
