History
The county was formed under the Ming Empire in 1373 and was subordinate to the Cangzhou (沧州) area of the Hejian Council (河 间 府), and under the Qing Empire, it was transferred to the subordination of the Tianjin Council (天津 府). After the Xinhai Revolution, it became part of Zhili Province.
In 1950, the Dezhou Special Area (德州 专区) of Shandong Province was formed, and the county became part of it. In 1952, the border between Hebei and Shandong provinces was changed, and the county became part of the Special District of Qangxian (沧县 专区) of Hebei Province. In June 1958, the Cangxian Special District was annexed to the Tianjin Special Region (天津 专区), and in December it was disbanded, and the county became directly subordinate to Tianjin City. In 1961, the Cangxian Special District was recreated under the name Cangzhou Special Region (沧州 专区), and the county became part of it again. In December 1964, the border between Hebei and Shandong provinces was again changed, and the county again became part of the Dezhou Special Region. In 1967, the Dezhou Special District was renamed the Dezhou District (德州 地区).
