Thanks to al-Majriti, the events of the past of Persia could be accurately dated for the first time [3] .
Maslama al-Majriti was one of the most brilliant Muslim scholars during the reign of al-Hakam II . According to Said ibn Ahmad al-Andalusi, he was the best mathematician and astronomer of his time in al-Andalus [4] . Working together with Ibn al-Saffar , he developed new geodetic methods. He wrote the book on taxation and the economy of al-Andalus [2] . He edited and made some changes to the Encyclopedia of the Brothers of Purity [5] [6] .
Maslama al-Majriti predicted the futuristic process of scientific exchange and the emergence of networks for scientific communication. He built a school of astronomy and mathematics, which marked the beginning of organized research in al-Andalus. Among his students were such famous scholars as Ibn al-Saffar, Abu-s-Salt and at-Turtushi [4] .
The Arab philosopher Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406) mistakenly attributed to this mathematician the authorship of the grimoire “The Purpose of the Sage” (“Picatrix”) [7] .
